Our Leadership Team
Dave Roberts
OWNER/OPERATOR
Prior to founding J&D Restaurants in 2011, Dave spent more than forty-years with McDonald’s. This includes fourteen years working for Rueben Taylor, an Owner/Operator in Connecticut, followed by 27 years with McDonald’s Corporate in Illinois. Throughout Dave’s nearly three-decade career at McDonald’s headquarters, his positions included Supervisor, Operations Manager, Director, Senior Director, and Vice President of National Operations, McDonald’s – Japan. During his service in Japan, Roberts’ departments supported 3,800 restaurant operations while providing direct day-to-day leadership for three corporate departments.
Doris Christian
AREA SUPERVISOR
Doris’ career began 29 years ago as a maintenance person with Lee Enterprises dba McDonald’s located on 8 mile and Ryan Rd in Warren, Michigan after reading a road sign that said: “Need Extra $$$ now hiring PT help come inside”. While working in the Detroit Metropolitan Area, Doris worked for 2 different operators and Corporate McDonald’s. Doris moved to Iowa in Nov 2012 to assist a new Operator in the area. Doris joined J&D Restaurants as an Area Supervisor in January 2017. During the course of her career, she has taught SMX and Maintenance Classes, ran literacy programs and is currently a Servsafe instructor and proctor. She is looking forward to what the future holds.
Brian J. Douglas
VICE PRESIDENT/DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Brian joined J&D restaurants in 2013 as a co-owner, and spent his first three years developing and training in all of the positions of the restaurant.
He quickly moved into the General Manager role for both the Fairgrounds and Drake locations before being promoted to Operations Supervisor in 2018 and then Director of Operations in 2021. As Director of Operations, he is responsible for the management and performance of the restaurants, managing Area Supervisors, and leading the organization.
Brian has been recognized for his leadership in 2016 by receiving the Golden Hat Award and the McDonald’s Midwest Region Outstanding Manager Award. Brian attended Iowa State University, has previous business management experience and is part of the Next-Generation owner/operator program with McDonald’s.
John Johnston
AREA SUPERVISOR
John started his McDonald’s career in 1983 as a crew person in Rockaway, NJ. He worked his way up the management ladder, becoming a Store Manager in 1995. John managed restaurants for several corporate and franchise McDonald’s and was twice awarded the Outstanding Restaurant Manager Award. A Supervisor since 2008, John headed west and joined J&D Restaurants in 2021. He enjoys helping people grow personally and professionally and is excited to be a part of the team.
Mike Ruch
DIRECTOR OF RESTAURANT DEVELOPMENT
Mike has worked for McDonald’s for 42 years. He began his career as a 15-year-old in Mankato, a small town in southern Minnesota. Mike joined J&D restaurants as the Director of Restaurant Development after retiring from McDonald’s Corporation. Mike has held all positions in the Restaurant and has a college degree in Finance. He has held the positions of McOpCo consultant, McOpCo HR consultant, Deployment Manager, Field Service Manager, Regional Training Manager and also spent 4 years with Target as an Human Resources Director. At J&D Restaurants, Mike works on Major Remodel Projects, Project Management Office (PMO), which includes McDelivery, Deployment, Technology and Experience of the Future (EOTF). Mike is also involved in the Human Resources processes for the Organization.
